Wedding and newborn photography FAQS – with photographer, Sarah Hughes

What is your preferred style of photography?

Quite simply I combine my signature moody look and earthy organic tones with a candid approach to create natural and honest photography. I don’t follow the latest pinterest poses, rather preferring to capture your own individuality.

How many weddings have you shot in your career?

Over the last five years I have shot to 100 weddings and Bye Bye Blackbird is continually evolving. Above all, it’s connecting with couples and individuals from many different backgrounds that I love. Each with their own special story.

Do you bring a second photographer to weddings?

I am lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing talent and have a network of fellow photographers with similar styles and ethics as myself. If you would like a second photographer, I can arrange this. Second photographers start from $500.

Do you work from a shot list at weddings?

I like to let real emotions and moments unfold in front of me, so in essence I don’t typically use a shot list. I look for key moments and interactions between family members and friends. Should there be anything you would like a little more structured, we can discuss it.

Do you have samples of your albums and prints?

Absolutely! I love showing off my samples. Always feel free to come in and see me at my Alstonville studio. If you have a favourite café, let’s catch up over a cuppa and I can show off my gorgeous albums and prints.

Is there a limit to the number of images received in the finally gallery?

For weddings there is no limit, though typically I work with a figure of roughly 50-100 final images per hour. Images are uploaded to your personal online gallery. You can share images directly with friends and family. Furthermore prints and merchandise can be ordered directly from your gallery. Wedding images are also supplied on a USB.

How much is your deposit?

For weddings, a $500 retainer is required at time of booking with the balance due a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the date. Installments are also welcome.

You mentioned you photograph couples portraiture, are engagement sessions included in the packages?

Yes, engagement sessions are complimentary for all half and full day wedding packages for NSW North Coast and southern QLD couples. Some couples outside these areas may have an additional fee for couple’s portraiture sessions.

So you travel?

You bet! I have two beautiful homes; one where my studio is based in the Byron Bay Hinterland, and the other in Deloraine Tasmania where my family is located and frequently travel between these areas. I also cover South East QLD and across to the beautiful New England Armidale and Tenterfield region.

Gladly traveling Australia wide. You want me? I’ll be there!

Can I create my own custom package?

Yes, if you are looking at having something truly tangible and a way to really let your memories shine, create a custom package that includes a fine art album. After all, you can’t hug a USB, but you can cherish a beautifully designed and crafted album. You may on the other hand only want a set number of hours to fit in with your budget requirements. Let’s talk about your vision and how you would like to see your day captured and presented.
