When it comes to capturing those special moments in life, you need a photographer you can trust, someone that cares. I’m Sarah Hughes and I am here to answer any questions you might have before entrusting me to document your precious memories and occasions.

1. What is your preferred style of photography?

A. Bye Bye Blackbird Photography combines its signature moody look and earthy organic tones with a documentary and unobtrusive approach to create beautifully natural, honest and authentic photography. Bye Bye Blackbird Photography focuses on capturing beautiful moments; weddings, couples, maternity & newborns.

2. How many weddings have you shot in your career?

A. I have been operating BBBP for nearly five years and shot close to 100 weddings. My business is continually growing and evolving and I love connecting with couples and individuals from many different backgrounds, each with their own story; it is telling these stories which is my passion.

3. Do you bring a second shooter to weddings?

A. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by some amazing talent here on the NSW North Coast and have an awesome network of fellow photographers with similar styles and ethics as myself. If requested I can call upon my network should you wish to hire an additional photographer at your wedding event. Second shooters start from $500 for three hours coverage.

4. Do you work from a shot list at weddings?

A. I like to let real emotions and moments unfold in front of me, so in essence I don’t typically use a shot list. I do use the key moments and interactions between family members and friends as a loose guide, but should there be anything you would like a little more structured, we can discuss it.

5. Do you have samples of your albums and prints?

A. Absolutely! I love showing off my samples. Always feel free to come in and see me at my Byron Bay studio, or I love catching up at your favourite café over a cuppa to show off my gorgeous albums and prints.

6. Is there a limit to the number of images received in the finally gallery?

A. For weddings there is no limit, though I typically find I work with a figure of roughly 50-100 final images per hour. Images are uploaded to a clients own personal online gallery where images can be shared among friends and family and print and merchandise orders can be directly made. Wedding images are also supplied on a USB.

7. How much is your deposit?

A. For weddings, a $500 retainer is required at time of booking with the balance due a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the date. Installments are also welcome.

8. You mentioned you photograph couples portraiture, are engagement sessions included in the packages?

A. Yes, engagement sessions are complimentary for all half and full day wedding packages for NSW North Coast and southern QLD couples. Some couples outside these areas have an additional fee for couple’s portraiture sessions.

9. So you travel?

A. Absolutely, I am lucky enough to have two beautiful homes; one where my studio is based on the NSW North Coast in the Byron Bay Hinterland, and the other in North West Tasmania where my family is located. I frequently travel between these areas, but also cover South East QLD, across to the beautiful New England and down to the mid north coast. But I am also available Australia wide; you want me? I’ll be there!

10. Can I create my own custom package?

A. Yes, if you are looking at having something truly tangible and a way to really let your memories shine, you are welcome to create a custom package that includes a fine art album – after all, you can’t hug a USB, but you can cherish a beautifully designed and crafted album. You may on the other hand only want a set number of hours to fit in with your budget requirements. I always encourage meeting with prospective clients prior to booking, not only to ensure we are a good fit for each other, but it gives us a chance to talk about your vision and how you would like to see your day captured and presented.
